New Ownership - Positive Changes Coming to Coffeehouse

As Portland natives working in the local specialty coffee business we are tremendously grateful for the responsibility to preserve and enhance the iconic reputation of Coffeehouse Northwest.

In 2004 Portland Coffee House became Coffeehouse Northwest as it transformed into one of Portland’s pioneering legacies in specialty coffee. As a result, today’s competition is ever so fierce with amazing coffee on nearly every corner in the city. And that, to us, is one more reason to be proud Portlandians.

Over the next six to twelve months you can expect a number of minor and major changes. Our first priority has been to clean up our corner and police transient loitering so we can enjoy a safer, more pleasant environment.

We’ve made numerous changes to the interior vibe bringing in, gritty but beautiful, urban photography from local artist John Kay. We’ve uncovered the beautiful original 100 year old brick walls and brightened the space with a fresh paint job.

We’ve brought in our favorite local roaster Dovetail Coffee because the product is consistently delicious, the brand non-pretentious and the company provides incredible cafe and community support.

We’ve increased the pay for our barista staff across the board. Promoted two baristas to management providing higher paying wages and new career opportunity. Staff wages will continue to grow alongside revenue.

This Fall we plan to start replacing outdated equipment to brand new technology in order to maximize extraction quality to the highest standard.

With all the fundamentals well established, we’ll continue to make interior upgrades to improve comfort and vibe - such as new tables and chairs and aesthetic upgrades.

As part of this process we’ve listened very carefully to our great staff, who love this business as much as we do, but we also want to hear your feedback as well. If you have questions or comments that can help guide our priorities, please send us a message. We’re very much looking forward to hearing from you!
